Welcome to chunlikickedme, a blog run by be0wulf and forouhar. We aim to provide quality analysis, critiques, and recaps of all aspects of anime.
be0wulf
Hi, I’m be0wulf. I guess I provide the “quality” part of the blog description. About me, eh? I first became acquainted with modern Japanese visual culture way back in 2005 with the manga Gantz. Manga and anime were a major part of my life until I went to university, where a combination of shitty shows and lack of time caused me to stop keeping up with anime news religiously. Seasons would pass by and nary a seed would be planted in my…field of anime to watch (was that a stretch? Sorry.)
However, in the summer of 2011, a show called Ano Hi Mita Hana…something something aka DAT FLOWER piqued my interest. It was a slice-of-life show about a group of childhood friends who had drifted apart due to a shared tragedy in their pass. If you know me at all, then you’ll know that I’m a sucker for the “childhood-friends-in-Japan” genre of anime. Although the show turned out to be a trainwreck, my passion for anime managed to…blossom anew. Which takes us to where we are now.
Thanks for reading!
My (incomplete) list of favourite anime tropes and/or fetishes:
- Student council president hailing from a rich family; blonde hair optional.
- Childhood friends with comically large breasts.
- Childhood friends with comically small breasts.
- Twintails.
- That v-shaped patch of skin revealed by a loosely buttoned blouse that shows the collarbone.
- Coma girls.
- Train stations.
- Tsunderes not voiced by Kugimiya Rie.
- Cute ghosts doing cute things.
- Knee-high socks.
Forouhar
Hello, I’m forouhar, and I’m one of two authors for this blog. I cut my teeth on anime and manga in the early 2000’s, and I’ve tried to keep up with this collection of tremendously multi-faceted material ever since. While I do enjoy the audio-visual experience of watching anime, I’m also quite fond of delving into and deconstructing aspects of such in pursuit of a greater understanding through the elucidation of topics that may otherwise escape the cursory gaze.
My aspirations with this blog are twofold. On one hand, it gives me an incentive to follow anime on a regular basis, since I have a nasty habit of marathoning entire series. This eventually comes back to haunt me, as I end up with a massive backlog and a significant loss of motivation (to finish said series). On the other hand, blogging gives me the chance to put my (sometimes rambling) thoughts into words. What follows is a rather incomplete list of my favourite anime, of which the bottom five are always subject to change.
My (incomplete) list of favourite anime:
- Mushishi
- Ghost in the Shell
- Honey and Clover
- True Tears
- Black Lagoon
- 12 Kingdoms
- Full Metal Panic!
- Hanasaku Iroha
- Outlaw Star
- Ouran High School Host Club
