When this series first started airing, I wondered to myself when the first swimsuit episode would appear. After all, there is a law in Japan that states: any show containing more than two female characters must have at least one beach and/or swimsuit episode. Didn’t take ’em to show some ghost titties in a bikini. Now Sankarea, on the other hand…
Plot
The episode begins as follows:
I expected twenty more minutes of the three posing in various lewd and seductive poses, but I guess Silver Link realized that tits can only advance the plot so far. And so, we get the “Rock of Curses” arc in episode 4, with some *ahem* minor modifications.
Instead of the entire school having a sleepover, the Paranormal Ghostbusting Club members are the only participants in this adaptation. I guess it gives them an excuse to animate some swimsuits?

Okonogi fans (all 10 of them) are undoubtedly devastated that the episode did not feature Seductive Okonogi.
In any case, due to all of the swimsuit cleavage, Yuuko becomes a jealous ghost and decides to play a little prank on Niiya. We also find out about Kirie’s inferiority complex about her (lack of) tits, and we’re treated to more of Okonogi’s retard-moe shenanigans. There’s also skinny dipping! And hand-holding. Gosh, so many turn-ons.
I suspect the next episode will finish up the arc considering the “cliffhanger” ending of this episode, so I won’t write too much about the plot. Moving right along…
THOUGHTS AND FEELS
I was rather confused while watching the episode (not from the tits) since it appears Silver Link decided to mash up elements of chapter 12 and 13 together. Also, we once again have lots of evidence of lazy animators (maybe they spent all the budget on boob physics?): still shots for pool splashing scene, Yuuko x Niiya running through the school is set to random school background pictures, etc. And once again, the art falls a bit short from the manga:

Look at the texture on the fabric. Look at it!
The episode is a good showcase for Yuuko’s possessive nature. We get a lot more of the interaction between Yuuko and Niiya that were missing from the previous two episodes. Lets hope they’ll focus more on the “jealous Yuuko” relationship angle in future episodes; nobody really cares about Okonogi and Kirie, right?
I also suspect that we haven’t seen the last of the swimsuits and lingerie for this series. After all, they have to sell the DVDs somehow, right?
Note: the Sankarea and Hyohyohyouka posts have been somewhat delayed due to me being sick last week. Worry not, loyal readers (there are readers, right?), those posts will come in due time. IN DUE TIME.
