Oops, did I spoil the plot in the title there? Well I guess if you don’t know what Sankarea is by now, you wouldn’t care about it anyway. BUT FIRST! Well, I guess it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that I’m posting before forouhar-kun. After all, my blogging partner is notoriously lazy and busy, which when combined is a lethal combo. But without further ado, I present to you:

PLOT (and other things)

Why yes, yes I would.

The first episode doesn’t tread through any new territory for those who have read the manga. It basically introduces Chihiro Furuya, our MC with a fetish for cute undead girls. One would have to wonder how he plans to consummate such a relationship, since his partner would be rather stiff and unresponsive. But I’m sure later episodes will delve into that.

Other characters include: neurotic grandpa, monk dad, moe imouto shrine maiden character, retard male friend, and of course the obligatory childhood friend character, who will inevitably lose in her quest for Furuya’s heart because that’s what childhood friends do, they lose.

In the game of thrones, you either win or you're the childhood friend.

And of course, Furuya eventually meets the titular character, Sanka Rea. Beautiful, innocent, rich, ojou-sama character with a hime cut. Oh, and blue eyes. And boobs. She’s been visiting this abandoned…bowling alley? (see first picture) to vent out her frustrations with her life. Her high birth and her controlling father essentially means that she’s unable to live a normal life as a Japanese high school girl. Oh, and her dad occasionally takes naked pictures of her to, uh, “measure her growth”.

That coat is /fa/ approved.

In any case, the two quickly strike up a friendship. Guess they had to, otherwise the show would’ve ended at one episode.

THOUGHTS AND FEELS

Wait, did I say she was pure? ROTTEN SLUT.

First things first. I am quite honestly surprised that Studio DEEN managed to create such a quality show. After such masterpieces as the original F/SN anime and Korean Zombie Desk Car, I can be forgiven for being rather apprehensive about the quality of this show. But it seems like DEEN has taken some pointers from SHAFT. Monochromatic shots, shots that focus on the character’s contorted face, with only a few colors and no background. Several scenes would not have been amiss if they were found in Bakemonogatari, minus the often convoluted dialogue that is Nisio Isin’s trademark. Oh, and the OP is sung by nano.RIPE, of Hanasaku Iroha fame.

In any case, episode one has not been a disappointment. Although, we will have to see whether hime cut girls 2 and 3 (i.e. Ghost Yomi and that kyoani purple-eyed goddess) will lessen my attraction to Sanka Rea-chan.
